The Shtandart in Zaandam

The Shtandart is a Russian training ship built in 1999. Its home base is St. Petersburg and it makes often trips through Europa.
The ship is a replica of the ship built by  Czar Peter the Great in 1703.
In July 2010 the ship visited the harbour of Zaandam. Zaandam is the town where Czar Peter learned the profession of ship building - it still has a statue of Peter the Great in the center of the city and in teh little 'Czar Peter' museum once can see the small house he lived in during his visit in Zaandam. A copy of the statue is placed in St . Petersburg
